ROXY THEATER HOLDS
A GRUDGE!

On Halloween Night, beginning at 8 pm, the Roxy Theater on Corn Hill in Pine Deep will present a revival of the 2004 horror smash film, The Grudge (starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jason Behr, Clea DuVall and Bill Pullman). The event will be hosted by Stephen Susco, the screenwriter of the film.

The Grudge marked Sarah Michelle Gellar’s return to horror after leaving the long-running hit cult-hit series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. When asked why she chose to step back into the world of the macabre as a woman helpless in the face of evil rather than as a kick-butt vampire slayer, Gellar said that she wanted to do a differnt kind of role. “That's the reason I did it. I like being challenged. I've played Buffy. No one is ever going to out-Buffy Buffy, so I'm not trying to.” (Associated Press, 18 October 2004)

Susco, who has strong ties to Bucks County, will open the event with a short talk on classic horror films, and after the screening will take questions from the audience.

The event is being sponsored by the Pine Deep Haunted Hayride, and special candy corn-flavored popcorn will be free to all who attend! Tickets are available at the door, and can be reserved by calling (215) 555-Roxy

THE HORROR WRITERS ASSOCIATION
By Oscar J. Friend

THE HORROR WRITERS ASSOCIATION (HWA) is a worldwide organization of writers and publishing professionals dedicated to promoting dark literature and the interests of those who write it. HWA was formed in the late 1980s with the help of many of the field's greats, including Dean Koontz, Robert McCammon, and Joe Lansdale. Today, with over 1,000 members around the globe, it is the oldest and most respected professional organization for the much-loved writers who bring you the most enjoyable sleepless nights of your life. Jonathan Maberry, author of Ghost Road Blues, is an active member of the HWA, and has recently become the Chapter President for the New Jersey/Pennsylvania chapter. “This chapter is small and spread out pretty thinly, especially across Pennsylvania,” observes Maberry, “but over the next few months I intend to bring the chapter together into a tighter and more mutually supportive group.”

Author/editor David Kramer was recently appointed Vice President of the Chapter and has agreed to step up as Webmaster beginning winter of 2006. Says Kramer, “The HWA does a lot of good, and it lets the reading public know that horror --in all its many forms—should not be dismissed as ‘mere genre writing’, as it so often has. Horror writing has shown itself to be innovative, challenging, insightful, and enduring.”

“Beginning Feb 1, 2006,” Maberry advised, “we’ll be launching a membership drive that will be amped up all year long. I’m inviting anyone who loves horror and wants to share in some spooky fun to drop me a line and climb aboard.”
